The novel transition metal carbide superconductor Sc3CoC4 may represent a new model system for a quasi-one-dimensional superconductor. We investigate its superconducting transition in detail by means of electrical transport experiments in combination with DC magnetization experiments. Our data indicates that this superconductor shows a more characteristic 1D behavior than Tl2Mo6Se6, which for a long time has been regarded as the most suitable benchmark system of 1D superconducting behavior. We find a surprisingly high onset of 1D superconducting fluctuations at 8 - 9 K with a crossover towards a higher dimensional bulk superconducting state occurring below 4 K. We furthermore report experimental evidence that the superconducting ground state competes with a Peierls-ordered ground state.
